Adyen has expanded its partnership with Toast into the United States, extending a relationship that has covered several international markets since 2021.

Under the expanded agreement, Adyen will support Toast in the U.S. as the restaurant and hospitality technology group broadens its payments setup. Toast said it facilitated more than $215 billion in gross payment volume in the 12 months to the end of June 2026 across about 180,000 locations worldwide.

Before the U.S. expansion, the companies worked together in Ireland, the UK, Canada and Australia, supporting Toast's international growth through a single payments system across multiple countries.

Toast sells a platform for restaurants, hospitality groups and retail businesses that covers point-of-sale systems, online ordering, payments and back-of-house operations. The U.S. addition brings Adyen into a market where Toast already has a substantial presence and where transaction volumes are far larger than in the overseas territories covered by the earlier partnership.

The agreement highlights how payment providers are seeking deeper ties with sector-focused software groups that control merchant relationships in industries such as restaurants and retail. For companies like Toast, the appeal is using one provider across markets rather than stitching together multiple local arrangements.

Adyen said the arrangement is designed to support businesses that need dependable transaction processing in service-led sectors where speed at the checkout can shape the customer experience. It also cited faster settlement and support for different payment methods as part of the offering for platforms and their customers.

"Businesses need technology that helps them stay competitive, not systems that slow them down," said Blake Breathitt, SVP, Global Co-Head of Strategy at Adyen.

"Speed, control, and reliability matter, especially in service-based businesses like restaurants, retail, or hospitality. When a guest is waiting, every second counts. Operators need hardware and systems that just work. Toast adding Adyen in the U.S. market is a testament to the growth of our relationship, and it speaks to what our global platform makes possible for platforms and their customers: faster settlement, allowing guests to pay how they want to, and the ability to grow internationally," Breathitt said.

Payments tie-up

Toast described Adyen as an established partner in its international payments operations. Adding Adyen in the U.S., it said, is a natural extension of a relationship already used to support payments services in overseas markets.

"At Toast, we value our foundation of strong, strategic partnerships, and Adyen has been a cornerstone of how we deliver reliable, scalable payments services across international markets," said Michel Rbeiz, General Manager, Fintech at Toast.

"Adding Adyen to our U.S. payments ecosystem is a natural expansion of that relationship, as we offer operators stability in processing and enable them to stay focused on running successful businesses and delighting their guests," Rbeiz said.

The expansion also reflects the growing overlap between payment processing and broader financial services within software platforms built for specific industries. Adyen said its in-house system brings together services including issuing, capital and business accounts, creating opportunities for customers such as Toast to embed more financial products into their own platforms.

That matters for Toast because its business increasingly extends beyond till systems and ordering tools into a broader set of merchant services. Restaurants and hospitality operators often prefer integrated suppliers that combine software, payments and related financial tools, particularly when they operate in several countries and need consistency in reporting and settlement.

The latest step strengthens Adyen's position in the U.S. restaurant and hospitality payments market, where platforms compete not only on price but also on uptime, settlement speed and ease of integration. It also gives Toast another layer of support as it manages a large payments base across a global estate of roughly 180,000 locations.

Toast's platform spans point-of-sale, online ordering, payments and operational tools for restaurant and retail businesses. In that context, the U.S. extension broadens an existing payments relationship rather than creating a new one, linking Toast's domestic market to an arrangement it already uses in Ireland, the UK, Canada and Australia.

Adyen works with large multinational businesses including Meta, Uber, H&M, eBay and Microsoft. The wider relationship with Toast shows how it is building on ties with existing merchant and platform customers.
