CData unveils cloud service after $350 million backing

Fri, 18th Apr 2025

CData Software has reported growth in its embedded connectivity business and has introduced a new cloud-based data connectivity service targeting small- and midsize software companies.

The company noted increased demand among software providers to deliver access to a growing range of data sources, attributed to the need for AI-ready data and an expectation of immediate, self-service access for users. As a result, CData said it has attracted attention from various software businesses seeking to integrate data connectivity within their own platforms.

CData has launched CData Embedded Cloud, a cloud-based service enabling software providers to expand their data connectivity offerings without the complexity of developing and maintaining their own data connectors. The service provides access to more than 160 pre-built connectors for SaaS applications, databases, and other cloud data sources, as well as back-end management of API changes, security, credential management, and performance optimisation.

Amit Sharma, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CData, said, "Software providers aren't just asking for connectivity - they're being evaluated on it, and this has accelerated demand for our embedded connectivity solutions. As AI moves from experimentation to execution, product teams need immediate, scalable access to data across their users' most critical systems. That's where CData shines. Our continued investment in API-rich, reliable connectivity has fueled strong momentum and positioned us as the go-to embedded solution for modern software companies."

Sami Hero, Chief Executive Officer at Ellie.ai, described the speed of implementation enabled by the new cloud service. Hero commented, "In less than two weeks, with only one developer, we had 160+ CData connectors up and running. CData Embedded Cloud just works."

The company also announced further expansion of its connector portfolio. Over the past year, CData has added connectors such as Okta and PingOne, which are used for identity and access analytics, and a Salesforce Data Cloud connector supporting real-time customer data unification. These offerings join a suite of more than 300 connectors, which have also seen ongoing enhancements aimed at boosting API coverage, performance, and utility.

CData stated that its embedded connectors are currently used by four of the ten largest business intelligence and analytics companies and three of the ten largest data integration and warehousing firms. Its customer base now includes Google Cloud Platform, VISMA, Infragistics, Celigo, Ellie.ai, Stellar One, and Bluecopa, among others.

To support this customer growth, the company has increased its investment in account management and customer support, including tripling resources dedicated to the embedded connectivity business. As part of this, CData appointed Rahul Pahuja as Field Chief Technology Officer. Pahuja brings over two decades of experience in management and technology consulting, having previously been Vice President, Client Engagement at Argano, and Director, Global MuleSoft Business at Slalom.

CData's investment initiatives and ongoing product development follow a $350 million strategic investment from Warburg Pincus. The company has also been recognised in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration.
