Chargeblast has launched Recovery, a chargeback representment service for merchants, extending its chargeback platform into dispute recovery.

The service targets businesses that still face disputes after using prevention tools. It focuses on representment, the process of challenging chargebacks by submitting evidence to recover disputed revenue.

Chargebacks remain a costly issue for online merchants, particularly as eCommerce volumes rise and businesses face higher operating costs and so-called friendly fraud, in which cardholders dispute legitimate transactions. While prevention products can reduce incoming disputes, merchants often still need to compile records from multiple systems to contest claims.

That can mean gathering transaction details from payment processors, customer relationship management systems, support platforms, subscription tools, fulfilment records and internal files. For many businesses, the administrative burden means some disputes go uncontested even when there are grounds to challenge them.

How it works

Recovery combines AI-assisted automation with specialist review. When a merchant has connected systems, the platform pulls dispute data and supporting material from integrated sources and prepares an evidence packet for review before submission.

For some cases, that process can take as little as 60 seconds, according to Chargeblast. When disputes cannot be automated because of integration limits, the company's recovery team collects evidence, prepares rebuttals and submits cases manually.

The service is designed to handle both automated and manual dispute workflows rather than relying on integrations alone. It also retains human review before cases are submitted.

According to Chargeblast, the product includes evidence tailored to dispute reason codes and card network rules. It also supports Visa Compelling Evidence 3.0 for eligible friendly-fraud disputes.

Merchant focus

Chargeblast has previously focused on dispute prevention through products including Alerts, Deflection and Digital Receipts. Recovery adds a representment layer to that line-up, giving merchants a single supplier for deflection, prevention and recovery.

"Merchants have invested heavily in preventing chargebacks, but prevention is only part of the equation," said Qi Cao, Chief Executive Officer, Chargeblast. "Recovery completes the chargeback lifecycle by helping merchants recover revenue from disputes that couldn't be prevented. Together, prevention and recovery give businesses a more complete strategy for protecting revenue."

Merchants can use a dashboard to monitor reporting and recovery analytics. Chargeblast said users may save an average of five to 10 hours a week on chargeback management, though results are likely to vary by merchant and dispute volume.

Chargeblast also said its AI-generated rebuttal letters can improve win rates by 60% to 80%. The announcement did not provide comparative baselines or details on the sample set behind that figure.

Pricing model

Recovery is offered on a performance-based pricing structure, with merchants paying only when disputed funds are recovered.

The service has no onboarding, setup or cancellation fees, monthly minimums or annual contracts, according to Chargeblast. If a dispute is unsuccessful, the merchant does not pay.

That structure reflects a broader shift among fintech and merchant services providers toward usage-based or outcome-based pricing, particularly in areas where businesses are wary of committing fixed budgets to contested returns. For merchants managing variable dispute volumes, the cost model may matter as much as the speed of evidence preparation.

Initial onboarding for eligible merchants typically takes one to four days, depending on access to payment processors and connected business systems. Availability starts immediately for merchants that meet the company's requirements.

"Merchants shouldn't have to stitch together multiple products just to manage disputes," said Cao. "Recovery brings prevention and representment together in one platform, giving businesses a more complete approach to protecting revenue throughout the entire chargeback lifecycle."
