Cognida buys Automate platform to boost finance AI
Tue, 25th Aug 2026 (Today)
Cognida has acquired the Automate platform from Within. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Automate is used in accounting and operational workflows, including revenue accounting, contract review, order management, invoice and expense processing, purchase-order matching, and compliance.
The deal adds a software product to Cognida's services-focused business as it seeks to expand its position in AI tools for finance and back-office operations. Automate will remain a separate product within Cognida, and its existing leadership and team will stay in place.
Nick Tiscornia will continue as General Manager of Automate, and Rama Pagadala will remain Senior Vice President of Engineering. The full Automate team will join Cognida as part of the transaction.
Automate works across quote-to-cash and procure-to-pay processes. Cognida says the platform applies accounting policies, enterprise rules, and controls to business documents and workflow decisions, routes exceptions and approvals, and links with ERP and CRM systems.
Cognida had worked directly with Automate before the acquisition, giving it prior knowledge of the product, its implementation environment, and customer requirements. That relationship is expected to support integration and help the combined business advance product development and customer work.
Accounting focus
Cognida is framing the acquisition around demand for AI systems that can operate in finance functions where auditability and controls matter. It says many businesses have tested AI tools but have yet to deploy them widely in core operational processes.
"Most enterprises today have AI pilots, not AI operations. The gap between the two is not model capability. It is context, controls, and accountability," said Feroze Mohammed, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cognida.
"What enterprises need is an operating model that connects data, policies, domain knowledge, workflows, AI systems, and people into something dependable enough to run critical parts of the business. Automate gives us a proven foundation inside accounting and operational workflows where outcomes must be accurate, controlled, and auditable," Mohammed said.
Cognida says large listed companies, private equity-backed businesses, and high-growth private technology groups have used the platform. It has processed millions of business documents in accounting and operational workflows that require traceable decisions and human oversight.
Team stays
For Automate customers, the main immediate change is ownership rather than structure. Cognida says customers will gain access to a larger engineering organisation, broader customer support resources, and deeper integrations across accounting and operations systems.
"Our customers depend on Automate for work that has to be right the first time. That doesn't change, and neither does the team behind it," said Nick Tiscornia, General Manager of Automate at Cognida.
"What does change is the scale of what we can build. As a core part of Cognida's strategy, Automate now has access to greater engineering depth and broader data and AI capabilities," Tiscornia said.
The sale also reshapes Within's product focus. The transaction will allow it to concentrate on its main platform while transferring Automate to a buyer it believes can invest in the business and support its customer base.
"Klarity Automate has built a strong position by applying AI to complex, high-value enterprise workflows," said Andrew Antos, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Within.
"As Within continues to build the Company Brain that captures how work gets done and continuously reallocates work between people and agents, we wanted Automate to move to an organisation with the commitment, capabilities, and customer orientation required to support its next phase of growth. Cognida already had meaningful familiarity with the platform and the team over a three-year partnership. That gave us confidence that Automate would move to an organisation that respects what has been built, understands its customers, and has the capabilities to help it grow," Antos said.
Customer view
One customer familiar with both companies described the combination as a logical fit for accounting and finance transformation work.
"I've worked with Automate since its early days and have also seen Cognida's capabilities firsthand through our finance transformation and revenue analytics work together," said Jason Durham, Chief Accounting Officer at Tyler Technologies.
"Automate has earned trust in complex accounting workflows where accuracy, controls, and auditability are essential. Cognida combines deep accounting-domain knowledge with strong data, AI, and execution capabilities. Together, they have a powerful foundation to accelerate innovation and expand Automate's impact across enterprise accounting and operations," Durham said.
The acquisition highlights a broader push by software and services groups to move AI from pilot projects into specific business functions with clear controls and defined accountability. In this case, Cognida is targeting accounting and operations processes where errors can create compliance, reporting, and governance risks.
Automate now sits at the centre of that effort within Cognida, serving as the company's software layer for workflows that require documented decisions, policy enforcement, and links to the core systems finance teams use.
