ConnexPay adds mobile wallet support for virtual cards
Fri, 2nd Oct 2026 (Today)
ConnexPay has added mobile wallet support to its virtual card offering, allowing eligible cards to be provisioned directly to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.
The update extends ConnexPay's virtual cards beyond online and remote transactions to in-person purchases at physical points of sale. Users can add cards to a mobile wallet without downloading a separate app.
Businesses use virtual cards to control spending on supplier and employee payments, often by setting limits on value, merchant type or use case. By linking virtual cards to mobile wallets, ConnexPay is targeting payment scenarios where companies need to authorise purchases quickly without issuing a physical card.
The feature is intended for time-sensitive payments, including travel disruption spending, hotel front desk payments, corporate travel and expense purchases, and in-person vendor transactions. A business can send a payment credential to a recipient's existing device and enable tap-to-pay transactions at the till.
Market data cited by ConnexPay points to a broader shift in payment behaviour. Juniper Research forecasts that global virtual card transaction value will rise from USD $5.2 trillion in 2025 to USD $17.4 trillion by 2029. Worldpay's Global Payments Report 2026 says digital wallets account for 17% of US transaction value at the physical point of sale.
Broader issuing push
ConnexPay has also expanded its issuing options with Mastercard physical cards, giving clients a route for payment use cases where a physical card is still preferred or required.
Existing virtual card customers can add physical cards without rebuilding their current issuing programmes. These programmes retain features including spending controls, configurable limits, merchant category restrictions and management tools across different card formats.
The combination of virtual cards, wallet-based tap-to-pay and physical cards reflects a broader trend in business payments, with buyers seeking greater flexibility in how funds are distributed while maintaining central control over who can spend, where they can spend and how quickly payments can be made available.
ConnexPay, based in Plano, Texas, focuses on linking incoming customer payments with outgoing supplier payments on a single platform. The company says it issues more than USD $12 billion annually.
Ben Peters, Chief Executive Officer at ConnexPay, said that the expansion broadens where virtual cards can be used.
"Virtual cards have traditionally given businesses tremendous control over how payments are made, but their use has largely been limited to online and remote transactions," Peters said.
"By enabling virtual cards for mobile wallets, we're extending that same control to in-person payments. A card that exists entirely in the digital world can now be used at the physical point of sale just like a physical card," the CEO added.
The update gives businesses another option for managing controlled payments across both digital and physical purchasing environments.
