Litera appoints Grant Hewlett as firm intelligence chief

Wed, 29th Apr 2026 (Today)

Litera has appointed Grant Hewlett as Vice President, Product for Firm Intelligence, putting him in charge of the company's firm intelligence product portfolio.

The role places a legal industry consultant and operations specialist at the centre of a product area focused on how law firms track performance, revenue and client work.

Hewlett joins Litera from Gradient Legal Consulting, where he was a founding partner advising AmLaw 100 and 200 firms and corporate legal departments. His work covered revenue lifecycle optimisation, operating model design and the use of artificial intelligence in legal service delivery.

Earlier in his career, he held roles at Norton Rose Fulbright, Deloitte Consulting and Vinson & Elkins. He also helped build the legal business consulting practice at Gravity Stack, part of Reed Smith.

That mix of consulting, law firm operations and alternative legal services gives Hewlett experience across several parts of the legal market. At Litera, he will oversee the strategic direction and execution of its firm intelligence products.

Product focus

Hewlett's remit includes AI-related offerings and broader product development in firm intelligence. The category typically covers the data and software law firms use to monitor financial performance, partner economics, client development and business planning.

Litera sells software to legal organisations across drafting, document comparison, contract review, knowledge management and business development. It says it serves more than 15,000 customers globally and 2.3 million daily users, including 99% of the AmLaw 100.

The firm intelligence portfolio is part of Litera's broader push to connect legal practice tools with the business management software used by law firms. The strategy reflects a wider shift in the legal sector, where firms face pressure to improve efficiency while finding new ways to support growth.

Adam Ryan, Litera's chief product officer, said Hewlett's recent advisory work aligns with the company's plans for the portfolio.

"Grant's recent work advising AmLaw 100 and 200 firms gives him a firsthand understanding of what firms are navigating right now. His perspective will be invaluable as we build the next generation of firm intelligence with AI that drives both efficiency and growth on a single platform, embedded in the tools lawyers already use," Ryan said.

Sector background

Legal technology providers have been expanding beyond specialist tools into broader platforms that combine workflow, data and analytics. In that market, firm intelligence products have grown in importance as law firms seek better visibility into profitability, matter management and client relationships.

Hewlett's appointment also reflects how software suppliers are increasingly recruiting from advisory and operational roles within the legal industry, rather than only from technology companies. Executives with experience inside large law firms and consulting businesses are being brought in to shape product strategy at legal software groups.

At Litera, Hewlett will be responsible for a portfolio focused on the business side of legal practice. The role is part of the company's effort to advance an end-to-end platform for law firms.

In his own comments, Hewlett pointed to the role of data and decision-making in the next phase of legal business software.

"The opportunity to help modernize the business of law through Litera's technology and market presence is special. Firm intelligence is at an inflection point - it's where data, decisions, and partner economics meet - and there are few platforms with the reach and credibility to define what comes next. I'm honored to help shape the next chapter of firm intelligence on a platform firms use every day," Hewlett said.
