Prophix has added new artificial intelligence tools to its Prophix One finance platform, extending its use across planning, reporting and connections to external AI systems.

The release includes an Autonomous Planning Agent, an MCP Server for connecting Prophix data to enterprise AI environments, a version of Prophix One for Microsoft Office, and a bank integration feature for cash management.

The move comes as finance software providers try to persuade chief financial officers that AI can be used on live financial data without weakening controls. Prophix says its approach keeps permissions, calculations and financial controls inside its platform while allowing other AI tools to access governed information.

According to Prophix, the Autonomous Planning Agent is designed to automate recurring financial planning and analysis work through workflows that still include human oversight. The MCP Server is intended to connect live Prophix data and financial intelligence to wider AI ecosystems so organisations can build workflows around their finance data.

The Microsoft Office integration is meant to bring financial information into applications finance teams and other staff already use. The cash management feature lets companies connect their cash management systems with banks to get refreshed daily balances and automatic transaction classification across more than 10,000 US and Canadian institutions.

Alok Ajmera, Chief Executive Officer of Prophix, said customers were at different stages of adopting artificial intelligence in finance operations.

"Most companies are on a spectrum when it comes to AI adoption and the comfort they have with fully embedding it into the finance function," Ajmera said.

"Whether you are a finance leader who is fully confident with AI, or you're curious about its transformational capabilities, there's extraordinary pressure from boards and CEOs to see the productivity lift from AI. Prophix is focused on providing our customers with a trusted platform that meets them wherever they are in their AI journey."

Customer use

Prophix included examples from customers using the new AI access model in financial reporting.

"We turned on the Prophix MCP server and the impact was immediate. Work that used to take several hours, like building out a board deck, now takes a couple of minutes," said Matt Hutchison, CFO of Jim's Formal Wear, Inc. "More importantly, what gives me confidence in Prophix AI is the audit trail. I can trace exactly where the results came from."

Prophix is positioning auditability as a key factor for finance teams that want to use AI outputs in management reporting and board materials. In finance departments, questions about source data, approval paths, and the ability to trace results remain central to whether software is adopted beyond pilot projects.

Another customer described using AI to interpret quarterly data and identify actions for finance teams.

"AI helps us shorten the journey between data and insight. The reporting agent helps us create the story behind the data. It analyses what's happening, what's good, what's not, and provides recommendations," said Mandy Huynh, Business Intelligence Analyst at KBL Environmental. "It's a very fast, clean way to help the finance team understand what's happening across the quarter and what to do next."

Wider market

The update comes amid a broader push across the software industry to connect specialist business systems with general-purpose AI assistants. For finance teams, that trend has raised concerns about whether tools such as ChatGPT or Claude are drawing from approved figures, established business logic and the right user permissions.

Prophix's answer is to place AI on top of what it describes as a governed finance system. It says the platform is deterministic, explainable and audit-ready, with controls intended to let finance teams delegate more work to software while keeping oversight of the outputs.

Founded nearly four decades ago, Prophix says it serves more than 3,000 customers in over 100 countries. Its software covers planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, reconciliation and consolidation, as vendors in the sector compete to show how AI can be inserted into the daily work of finance teams without losing control of underlying numbers.

The latest release is Prophix's second major product update of the year.
