Sage launches AI agents & cloud platform to boost finance teams

Fri, 7th Nov 2025

Sage has announced a series of new artificial intelligence-driven solutions designed to advance finance automation and platform innovation for mid-sized organisations and their partners.

Finance agents

The company has introduced the Sage Intacct Finance Intelligence Agent, part of its broader network of AI agents aimed at enhancing the role of the Chief Financial Officer. This agent operates as an intelligence layer, directing natural language queries to the appropriate AI agents and financial data sources before synthesising a final, actionable response. Its aim is to cut down the time finance teams spend searching for reports and analysing data, allowing for faster decision-making and automation of manual tasks.

"It's incredibly important that we give finance teams technology that doesn't just respond to requests but works alongside them proactively, and that's what we are achieving with our Agents," said Steve Hare, CEO, Sage. "With our AI Agents, we are helping teams save time, surface insights faster, and perform at their best. It's about giving finance leaders more confidence in their numbers and the freedom to guide the business. This is authentic, finance-first AI that empowers high-performing teams and equips them with transparent, accurate, and audit-ready insights."

The Finance Intelligence Agent joins Sage's existing family of AI agents such as Close Agent, Accounts Payable Agent, Assurance Agent, and Time Agent. These digital assistants are designed to handle routine finance tasks, automate project time capture, flag potential issues, check duplicates, and catch errors at data entry. All agents are embedded into Sage Intacct, providing automation that is specific to finance workflows and intended to free up time for strategic and high-value activities.

Thomas Cochran, Chief Financial Officer at New West Building Company, said "The Finance Intelligence Agent is a massive leap beyond today's finance tools. With the ability for agents to work together to complete workflows and deliver insights, we can achieve our vision to shift from doers to reviewers. That allows us focus on the high-impact activities that serve our customers and grow our business."

Developer ecosystem

Sage also announced its new AI Developer Solutions, which centres on an ecosystem for partners and independent software vendors to create certified AI capabilities and digital agents using the Sage Platform. Starting with Sage Intacct, the initiative is intended to expand across Sage's wider portfolio, supporting the development of automation, integration, and insights features tailored to Sage customers.

At the heart of these solutions is the Sage AI Gateway, which is built using Model Context Protocol servers and REST APIs, enabling partners to design AI-driven extensions that securely integrate with Sage's core products. The company is collaborating with Amazon Web Services to leverage large language models and provide infrastructure for secure, scalable solutions. This approach allows AI agents to be deployed within the trusted Sage Copilot interface, ensuring partners' products adhere to Sage's compliance and data protection standards.

"This is the next step in Sage's Platform journey," said Aaron Harris, CTO, Sage. "We are giving our partners the ability to build with Sage intelligence at their core. Together we can accelerate innovation for millions of small and mid-sized businesses, bringing AI agents out of the lab and into the real workflows where they'll make the biggest impact."

For customers, this development is designed to enable embedded intelligence, increased personalisation, and a wider selection of tools and workflows directly within Sage applications. McKinsey research cited by Sage forecasts the integrated network economy could reach a value of USD $100 trillion by 2030, highlighting the potential of open, connected ecosystems to deliver value.

Kevin Akeroyd, CEO at Sovos, said: "AI is fundamentally redefining tax compliance for businesses. Sovos is leading this transformation as one of the first partners in Sage's AI Developer Solutions. By combining our deep tax compliance expertise with Sage's trusted AI platform, we're building intelligent agents that integrate seamlessly into finance workflows, helping businesses make faster, smarter decisions while driving measurable improvements in productivity and profitability. We continue to work with Sage and AWS to bring enterprise-grade tax compliance capabilities to growing businesses, unlocking new levels of productivity and profitability."

Chris Grusz, Managing Director of Technology Partnerships at AWS, added: "This collaboration between AWS and Sage empowers small and mid-sized businesses to harness the full potential of AI without complexity. By bringing together Sage's platform expertise with Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore capabilities, we're enabling partners to create trusted AI solutions that solve real customer problems. Our shared vision is to make advanced AI accessible, secure, and immediately valuable for businesses of all sizes."

Sage X3 evolution

The company has also released a new generation of its Sage X3 offering as a fully managed cloud service. This version provides users with a streamlined system that simplifies upgrades while allowing for the same level of customisation present in previous versions. Embedded AI capabilities and Sage Copilot bring insights and automation into users' daily workflows, aiming to reduce routine tasks and introduce a more autonomous approach to business management.

The new Sage X3 gives mid-sized organisations access to features such as Sales Insights and integrated chat for workflow questions, delivered with regular updates managed by Sage. The company said this prepares organisations for further AI-driven developments, with future AI agents anticipated to handle finance, compliance, and operations tasks in the background.

"Delivering Sage X3 as a cloud solution gives customers agility and confidence," said Dan Miller, EVP, Sage. "It strips away the burden of system maintenance while preserving the powerful configurability that makes Sage X3 stand out. By combining cloud, our partners' deep industry knowledge, Copilot, and future AI Agents, we're helping businesses save time, move faster, adapt, and focus on what really drives growth."

Nick Tucker, Commercial Director at X3 Consulting, commented: "By removing the need for Customers or Business Partners to manage hosting and maintenance, the Sage X3 experience lets us focus on what really matters to customers. We can spend more time advising our customers on process improvements and integrating industry solutions, confident that Sage is managing the service behind the scenes."
