Socotra launches open AI skills for insurance core

Socotra has released Socotra Skills, an agentic configuration tool for its insurance core platform, which it describes as the first set of published agent skills from an insurance core provider.
The offering consists of reusable instructions and workflows designed to help AI agents work with Socotra's systems. Insurers can use their preferred AI agents, including Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Codex, and Cursor, to build products and run insurance workflows within the platform.
Agent skills have emerged as an open standard for giving AI systems repeatable expertise in specific software environments. Groups including Atlassian, Databricks, GitHub, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Stripe have already published skills, and Socotra is now applying that approach to the insurance core software market.
Socotra is positioning the tool as a way to bridge the gap between general-purpose AI coding tools and the specific structures of insurance administration systems. A generic AI agent may be able to generate code, but it will not necessarily understand Socotra's APIs, configuration model, platform workflows or the sequence of steps needed to build and maintain insurance products.
The skills package builds on Socotra's documentation by adding reusable instructions, examples and workflows. That is intended to reduce repeated prompting and produce more consistent interactions between AI agents and the insurance core.
Workflow focus
The tool covers a range of operational tasks inside a sandboxed Socotra environment. Insurers can use the skills to build insurance products and packages for different geographies and distribution channels, create and price quotes, issue and underwrite policies, manage policy transactions, and support underwriting and policy servicing work.
The workflows also extend to billing, reporting, integrations and use of Socotra's APIs. Because the skills are open source and can be customised, insurers can adapt them to internal requirements such as product standards, filings reconciliation, external data enrichment and testing of underwriting rules.
Other potential uses include routine rate changes, pricing analysis across a portfolio, ingestion of bureau content and front-end scaffolding. This suggests the product is intended not only for core administration work but also for surrounding product development and maintenance tasks.
Broader AI push
The launch adds to Socotra's broader set of AI-related products. Its MCP Server gives AI applications a structured, auditable route into the platform, while Socotra Assistant targets underwriting workflows and Agentic Configuration helps teams build and validate insurance products.
Socotra presents Skills as a layer that packages those functions into repeatable workflows that insurers can use through AI tools they have already adopted. The approach reflects a wider trend in enterprise software, where vendors are trying to make core systems accessible to external AI agents without requiring each customer to build a bespoke integration.
The insurance sector poses a particular challenge because product definitions, pricing structures and policy administration processes are often complex and tightly governed. Vendors are increasingly trying to show that AI can be applied to those systems in a controlled way rather than as a free-form chatbot overlay.
Socotra says its platform architecture, including its data model, product inheritance, open APIs, documentation and MCP Server, makes it suited to this kind of use. It also says insurers can deploy products across lines of business, geographies and distribution channels, then iterate on them through the same foundation.
Open model
Socotra Skills is available as a free public release. Insurers can also request sandbox access to Socotra Insurance Suite to test the workflows in a controlled environment.
The public release is notable because many AI-related tools in regulated software markets remain in limited preview or customer pilot stages. By publishing reusable skills openly, Socotra is betting that insurers and developers want standardised instructions they can adapt for different AI agents rather than a single vendor-controlled assistant.
That could also help customers avoid tying their workflows to one AI model provider. Socotra's emphasis on allowing insurers to use tools they already prefer points to a market in which buyers are experimenting with several AI coding and automation products at once.
