The Suite appoints Laura Belmont as General Counsel

Tue, 21st Apr 2026

The Suite has appointed Laura Belmont as General Counsel, a role that also includes oversight of content and programming strategy for The L Suite.

Belmont joins the professional community operator to manage its day-to-day legal work and play a senior role in shaping programming for its in-house counsel network. The business runs communities for legal and finance executives, including The L Suite and TechGC.

She brings experience across private practice, large corporate legal departments, technology companies and nonprofit work. Belmont has also been a member of TechGC for the past five years, giving her an existing connection to one of The Suite's communities.

Before joining The Suite, Belmont was General Counsel at Civis Analytics, a data science and AI technology company. There, she led legal, compliance, privacy and cybersecurity work. Her remit included AI governance frameworks, privacy architecture and joint leadership of the company's FedRAMP Moderate authorisation process.

Earlier in her career, Belmont held an in-house counsel role at Comcast, where she helped expand the legal compliance function. She began her legal career at Latham & Watkins and later worked as a Staff Attorney at the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs.

The hire gives The Suite a senior legal executive with direct experience in AI governance at a time when legal departments face growing pressure to address the use of artificial intelligence in contracting, compliance and internal controls. It also puts Belmont in a position to influence the direction of a community focused on in-house counsel navigating those issues.

Greg Raiten, Co-Founder of The Suite, linked the appointment to the organisation's legal community work. "Laura deeply understands the realities of in-house legal leadership from every angle - not just as an experienced GC, but as a builder of programs, frameworks, and communities," he said.

"Her expertise in AI governance and her regular engagement with the in-house counsel ecosystem make her an exceptional addition as we continue to expand the value we deliver to our members."

Career background

Belmont's background spans several parts of the legal sector. At Civis Analytics, her work covered regulatory, commercial and security matters. At Comcast, she worked within a large corporate structure, while her earlier roles combined commercial legal training with civil rights advocacy.

Outside her executive roles, she has held positions in civic and professional organisations. She serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for Women's Way, a Philadelphia organisation focused on gender equity and economic justice, and is a member of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania's Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence for Public Good.

Her professional recognition includes the Pennsylvania Legal Awards In-House Impact Award, finalist status in Corporate Counsel's Women, Influence & Power in Law Awards in the Thought Leadership category, and inclusion in Attorney Intel's Top 25 Attorneys of Pennsylvania. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Harvard University and a Juris Doctor from American University Washington College of Law.

Expanded remit

The role at The Suite extends beyond a traditional legal brief. Alongside managing the organisation's legal affairs, Belmont will oversee content and programming strategy for The L Suite, the company's main community for in-house counsel.

That remit suggests the company sees legal leadership and community programming as closely linked, particularly for members dealing with governance, regulation and the practical effects of AI on legal work. Belmont's prior involvement in TechGC and her recent role as co-chair of the 2025 Legal Velocity Summit reinforce that positioning.

Belmont described the organisation as a forum for senior decision-makers. "The Suite is the modern model for how leaders connect, learn, and inform their decision-making," she said.

"I'm excited to help shape both the legal foundation of the organization and the content and conversations that support in-house counsel as we navigate increasingly complex challenges, particularly as AI reshapes the legal landscape."
