Emburse automates receipt capture with American Airlines, DoorDash
Emburse has announced the direct integration of its expense management platform with American Airlines' AAdvantage Business programme and DoorDash for Business, automating receipt capture for business flights and meals.
The new features enable the automatic import of business travellers' receipts for AAdvantage Business flights and DoorDash meals into the Emburse system, aiming to simplify expense reporting for end-users and provide finance teams with enhanced visibility and efficiency over company spending.
According to Emburse, the platform's AI technology combines receipts and card transactions into a single, accurate expense entry, reducing the manual effort required for both employees and finance teams. This approach is positioned as an automated alternative to traditional, labour-intensive expense reporting methods, to lower opportunities for fraud and facilitate a smoother reconciliation process.
Building an integration network, Emburse's existing ecosystem of partner platforms includes services such as Uber, Lyft, Grab, Amazon Business, SpotHero, Parking Spot, and travel management companies such as AmTrav, Egencia, BCD, Navan, CTM, and its own booking tool, Emburse Book.
Paul Nagy, Chief Product Officer of Emburse, said:
"This isn't just about making expenses easier for employees - it's about giving finance leaders confidence and control. By expanding our ecosystem to include partners like the AAdvantage Business programme and DoorDash for Business, and investing in Emburse AI, we're transforming manual receipt capture into a frictionless, hassle-free experience. This is what Expense Intelligence looks like: user-centric, strategic, and designed to improve compliance and financial decision-making."
The process is designed so that receipts from American Airlines' AAdvantage Business flights and DoorDash for Business meals flow directly to Emburse's receipt wallet. Purchases are automatically matched to transactions, which then trigger the creation of smart expenses without the need for emailing or uploading receipts. This system enforces travel policies and accelerates reconciliation for finance teams. For Emburse Enterprise and Emburse Professional customers, the AAdvantage Business receipt integration is available at no additional cost. Additionally, Emburse Enterprise customers receive the DoorDash for Business integration included.
Jacob Teplin, Managing Director of the AAdvantage Business programme at American Airlines, commented:
"At American Airlines, we're committed to making business travel more rewarding and seamless for SMBs and their employees. Our integration with Emburse is tailored to meet the unique needs of SMBs by simplifying travel expense management, improving visibility into spend, and helping teams maximize rewards. Through this partnership, AAdvantage Business members can effortlessly control costs and streamline processes - freeing up resources to focus on growing their business."
Katie Egan, General Manager of DoorDash for Business, also highlighted the operational benefits for customers:
"DoorDash for Business is dedicated to simplifying meal solutions for organisations and their teams. Our integration with Emburse streamlines expense reporting, allowing employees to focus on their work while helping to ensure that finance teams have accurate, real-time data. This partnership exemplifies our commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and employee satisfaction."
Beyond flight and meal receipts, Emburse is expanding its AI-powered technology to automate the capture and processing of hotel and car rental folios. The upgraded folio feature leverages AI-powered OCR transcription, helping to automate the extraction and itemisation of data from a range of sources, whether through email, mobile, or web uploads. The system is designed to adapt to varying templates from global hotel chains and car rental agencies, extracting key data such as check-in dates and breakdown of charges.
Emburse says this enhanced automation can accelerate reimbursement for employees and reduce errors and processing times for finance teams. Features such as bulk editing, auto-fill fields, and mobile support are designed to facilitate auditing and compliance activities.
The company has also announced plans to roll out additional receipt integrations and AI-powered features throughout the year, enabling the automatic merging of receipts, transactions, and travel data in real time. Emburse says these plans align with its current strategy to build an expense management infrastructure that emphasises automation, policy controls, and predictive insights into corporate spend.
